DEBORAH DUGAN BECOMES CEO OF RECORDING ACADEMY

As Neil Portnow’s term as CEO comes to an end, the Recording Academy has decided on his successor. Deborah Dugan has been appointed President/CEO of the Recording Academy. Dugan began her career as a mergers and acquisition lawyer on Wall Street, but became acquainted with the entertainment industry while serving as president Disney Publishing Worldwide and afterwards as executive vice president of EMI Records Group/Angel Records. Currently, Dugan is co-chair of The Moth, an award-winning storytelling nonprofit, and recently served as the CEO of (RED), an extremely impactful nonprofit dedicated to the eradication of HIV/AIDS.

Her role, which she will officially begin on the 1st of August, includes overseeing “all Recording Academy affairs, working closely with the Board of Trustees and the Academy’s senior management team to advance our goals and mission—to ensure the recording arts remain an indelible part of our shared cultural heritage.”
